Steve and Jo have been married 40 years and have 2 grown sons, and 2 wonderful daughters-in-law, and 5 grandchildren.

He has served as a minister of the Southwest Central Church of Christ in Houston for 33 years. As a minister, Steve has written and taught on many subjects (some of which he wishes he could now retract). He has authored one book Deacons: Male and Female and contributed to the Encyclopedia of the Stone Campbell Movement (Eerdmans). Some of his teaching notes on The Lord's Supper and on end of life issues are on the church web site.

In his spare time, Steve is a railfan and model railroader. He became Master Model Railroader 389 of the NMRA at the end of 2006.
